| Most of the well known British radio manufacturers of the 1940's to early 60's were competing for the , then new ,second set market ; noteably.... 'Bush' 'Philips' 'Champion' - 'Premier' - 'Pilot Radio' Etc. Also the more well recognised makers i.e. Bush (of DAC series bakelite fame) , and Murphy , EKCO , K.B. , Sobell , Ultra , and even the CO-OP Defiant brand were all looking for their share of a very competitive MAIN set market. |
| The radios in our collection are carefully restored using where possible original components, cabinet work is kept to a minimum - only making repairs to make safe or for minor cosmetic reasons ( after all they are generally 50 years old + , so will not be expected to look as when they were manufactured ! ) |
Many of these radios are becoming collectors items , but others not so desirable should still be preserved before they are no longer serviceable Please DO NOT throw them away , contact your local B.V.W.S member, or possibly your amateur radio club for thier un-biased advice.
Local auctions or boot fair items generally end up as scrap or badly 'modified' But an old cabinet - bakelite or wood - though not a vintage wireless when a solid state device is fitted inside , might just be useful for spares !!!
