Although our small museum of some 500 radio's-gramophones- 405 T.V's and a multitude of smaller items is no more ( closed late 1995 ),we still have a small personal collection with a quantity of components and circuits, and are still keen to support the salvage and restoration of Wireless equipment which may, sadly,be destined for the local 'dump' or abandoned to decay in a loft or cellar somewhere. If you have of any type of 'Valve' equipment ",E.G. ( Radios - Amplifiers - Pre-50's 405 line TV's ) you may wish to dispose of..... , please let us know at, brian@radio-memories.co.uk |
| All the receivers in our collection try to be sympathetically restored using, where possible, original components , mainly the cabinets are cleaned and minor scratches and damage repaired to maintain some degree of original appearance. A few however, like the HMV 1124 where the cabinet was virtually destroyed by woodworm and damp, has been rebuilt to save scrapping a perfectly servicable chassis, which still gives first class performance for its age.... The 1960's Ferguson 'Stereophnic' radiogram was destined for the local dump, offered to us for'spares',it was found to be in perfect (well, may be not actually perfect!!)working order, but really could not be scrapped,:because of their size they do not fit in with the modern home:perhaps one day it may end up in a museum of 'old' technology. Our request for unwanted items, unfortunately, can no longer accomodate these ,or I will need to move into the attic!! The 1930's radiogram and the 1940's table radio have only just been saved from destruction and are now working again, most satisfying. |
| Collectors will no doubt spot the'intruder'amongst the valve radios in this display, these 'retro-replicas' have a limited interest as far as serious collectors are concerned( but you can't send a birthday present to end its days in the loft !! ),and at least when switched on it is not consuming some 35 to 50 watts of power. The 'Weston' ( made in U.S.A.) has been modified to work on the U.K. 240 volt supply, being ac/dc presents a safety hazard to inexperienced collectors,so please be careful !! Safety advice willingly given, please Email me,see home page. |
